Great Guns

My husband is very proud of his gun collection. Every shotgun has a story; every rifle has a riddle. He loves to tell of each one when inquiring minds ask. His face lights up and his voice softens when he retells the history behind each one of his guns. There’s the shotgun that his grandpa taught him how to shoot with. He was just a boy when Grandad took him out and helped him learn how to hit the tin can targets. And now, our boys each have a similar shotgun to learn the way he did, continuing that family tradition for another generation. And then there’s the rifle the hubby uses when he goes hunting with his high school buddies. Many jokes and untold stories become a part those trips; tales about sometimes missing the mark and other times claiming the biggest prize of the day. My husband’s guns have been hidden and locked away in a gun safe for many years, so he has not had the opportunity to retell those stories very often. I miss seeing the light in his eyes when he talks about them, so this year for Father’s Day I have ordered a Cottage Barnwood Gun Cabinet in which to put those great guns on display. I can’t wait to see him glow with excitement when he brings his beloved guns out of hiding and puts them into the glass-front cabinet. And, I have a feeling Grandad will be smiling down in approval too.
